Conquer Cancer Ride August 2013

Geeeeeez it's been a long time in between blogs! I'm back on today to ask for help.

I work as an admin officer in a hospital and see patients and their families effected by cancer everyday. I am fit and well and have decided to do what I can to help find a cause to this disease.

I'll be participating in a 2-day major cycling event called The Brisbane Ride to Conquer Cancer® benefiting Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR).

I'll be cycling over 200 kilometres that weekend, throughout Queensland's scenic countryside, with thousands of other Riders. All the proceeds will go to QIMR, a worldwide leader in cancer research and discovery, and one of the largest research institutes in the southern hemisphere.

I've agreed to raise at least $2,500, but I've set my personal goal to $2750.00. So here's where you come in because I need your help to do that. Please consider making a donation of $100 or anything that you can spare. Use the link at the bottom of this email to visit my webpage and support me. Please keep in mind the commitment I'm making to end this heartbreaking disease, and the personal efforts I'll have to make to accomplish this.

When I say "heartbreaking," here's what I mean: with 1 in 2 Australians diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and an estimated 121,500 new cases of cancer diagnosed in Australia this year, cancer is the second leading cause of Australian deaths and affects almost 20% of the population. That's why I'm riding. To do something BIG about cancer. I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me by supporting my fundraising efforts.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Noosa National Park

One of the most beautiful locations in the entire world must be Noosa. Every time I gaze out over Main Beach’s lazy crystal clear aqua water toward the National Park with its Pandanus trees and massive rocks lining the shore, I take a deep breath in and am overwhelmed at the beauty.

Noosa has beautiful beaches from the surf beach of Sunshine to the Nudist beach of Alexander Bay. A fabulous way to absorb some of Noosa’s beauty is to take a bush walk on the Noosa National Park track. It winds around the magnificent coastline and takes you past private Cove’s such as Little Cove and the surfer’s haven of Tea Tree beach. There’s a look out to take some scenic shots and there are crystal clear rock pools to cool off at along the way. The track eventually takes you to Alexander Bay or what the locals call “A Bay”. It is commonly known as the nudist beach. It does have unpredictable surf with big waves and sometimes rips but if you are a strong swimmer, I highly recommend a dip. The day we were there, we were the only ones on the bay and the water was so clean, I felt like I was on a secluded tropical island! You can also take the track right over to Sunshine Beach if you have some extra time.

It’s the perfect way to start the day and you can relax among the tall eucalyptus trees afterwards at the Bean and Gone coffee canteen in the Information Centre at the start/end of the National Park Track. It is THE best coffee I have ever had, perfectly made with love. Ahhhhh, serenity.

French Twist - The Barracks

Its style, charm and character is what give French Twist at the Barracks in Paddington, its individuality.  The large door invites you in to an enchanting cafe with artifacts such as saddles and guns from the olden days, displayed on the wall. There are hat boxes and old chests for coffee tables. The tables and chairs themselves are charming, especially the comfy lounge chairs carefully placed so the Spring sun can shine through olden style windows to give warmth and ambience. It's glass cabinets are filled with delicate delights, each one it seems, made with love. I chose the Turquoise Hazelnut which was a square piece of layered sponge, light and tasty and oh so special.

The coffee was yummy, although a little weak for this coffee addict, so next time I know to order a long black. If you are looking for value for money, this probably is not the place, as the treats are bite sized for approximately $4 a serve. However, if you are looking for somewhere special to go with the girls or your mum or grandma, I highly recommend French Twist for the unique experience that you won't find at any block stock coffee shop.
